Architectural Trends for New Orange County Homes

As Millennial s and baby boomers recognize the perks of in-town living, they are creating a demand for elegantly-designed new construction homes in urban areas. Some of the latest architectural trends across the United States are reflected in new Orange County homes. From gourmet kitchens and master bathroom suites that act as luxurious retreats, new homes offer private and social living spaces that pamper home owners and guests so they can thrive instead of simply survive.

Relaxing in style

According to a recent article by Freshome design and architecture magazine, one of the hottest architectural trends is to design homes as a retreat. When shopping for new Orange County homes, look for homes that have over-sized soaking tubs and spacious master suites. Fifty-percent of new builds in the U.S. have whirlpool tubs, reflecting the growing demand for a spa-like bathroom.

Having flex spaces

Flex spaces are also growing in popularity in Orange County homes, especially as many households are in transition. Some families may temporarily take care of their aging baby boomer parents. A grown child might return home to live for a few years. Having a bedroom on the main floor can serve as the in-law living space one year and a home office the next year. Other flex spaces include lofts, which may be defined by the owner.

Making a statement with the kitchen

According to Freshome, the kitchen is the central meeting place in the home. When touring various Orange County homes as a house hunter, look for kitchens that open to a dining room and living room or a kitchen that overlooks a Great Room. Because of the open concept, it’s more important than ever to have upgraded granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and attractive cabinetry in a gourmet kitchen.

Other trends include “health conscious designs,” and green living. Look for water conserving, energy efficient and increased insulation in new homes.
