Fountain Valley Paves Way for New Housing

FOUNTAIN VALLEY The City Council has approved zone changes to accommodate two new housing projects.

Brandywine Homes will build 16 homes on 2.95 acres on the site of the former First Christian Church at 18110 Magnolia St.

The council on Tuesday night also approved a zone change to allow Desai Construction to build 12 two-story condominium units at the corner of Newhope Street and Edinger Avenue.

The church property where Brandywine Homes plans to build was owned by First Christian Church of Huntington Beach. First Christian was using the church for its Spanish-language congregation but more recently rented the site to Irvine-based Mariners Church as a satellite campus.

Brandywine plans to build 10 garden homes on a private street off Magnolia Street, encompassing more than 2 acres. An additional six homes will be built on the remaining 0.93 acres that faces Third Street, which runs along the back side of the church.

The Craftsman and Mission-style homes will range in size from 2,600 square feet to 3,600 square feet. The homes will be both one- and two-story and feature four bedrooms, three to four bathrooms and three-car garages.

The homes will be deemed energy efficient with the installation of tankless water heaters, upgraded insulation and dual-pane windows.

“We’ve always wanted to do a project in Fountain Valley,” Steve Jones of Brandywine Homes told the council.

The City Council also approved a zone change that allows Desai Construction and Developers to build condominiums on a 0.77-acre property at Newhope Street and Edinger Avenue. An empty lot and a closed liquor store are currently located on the property.

The condos will range in size from 1,458 square feet to 1,582 square feet. Each will have a living room, dining room, kitchen and half bath on the first floor and three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a loft on the second floor. Amenities will include tankless water heaters, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and washer-dryer hookups. Each unit will have a two-car garage.

No prices have been set for homes in either development.

The council approved both projects on 4-0 votes with Councilman Guy Carrozzo absent.
