One listing is for the sacred Tongva village of Povuu’ngna, the traditional birthplace of the native people of the Los Angeles Basin. The other listing is for the evolution of its significant historic landscape.

Included are traces of the ancestral village, four acres of historic gardens from the 1920s and 1930s, an 1800 adobe ranch house, and a restored working ranch barnyard, complete with animals. In addition, the Rancho Center has a film and exhibits that tell the story of the landscape and the people through history.

The old jail was actually used until 1974.

San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary

Averill Park

Open every day in San Pedro from sunrise to sunset, you can enjoy ponds that are home to wild geese and ducks, a waterfall, a meandering stream, and lush lawns. Tables and grills make it a great place for a family picnic.

A gazebo on a hilltop at the end of a rose-lined walkway offers a spectacular view of the city and harbor below. This is the site for many weddings.
