Upcoming Events in Los Angeles County in December

After endless, premature teases from retailers, the holidays are here for real and they’ve taken over our December 2015 events calendar. Dive into the spirit of giving with a stop at one of the best gift shops in LA, or channel your altruistic side with these volunteer opportunities that range from feeding the homeless to providing gift for needy families.

Whatever your plans are—even if you’re feeling like a bit of a Grinch—you’ll find plenty of activities to take advantage of in our December events calendar.

The SantaLand Diaries

This delightfully outrageous holiday tale is for mature elves. New York Newsday said, “Worth more than a photo album full of Santas!” Matthew Wrather dons candy-cane tights in this funny one-man play about experiences as an unemployed writer taking a job as an elf at Macy’s department store in New York City where the holiday season brings out the best and the worst in everyone.

You can also toast the holidays with complimentary pre-show champagne or non-alcoholic eggnog.

Pomona Harvest Festival

This art and craft show has recreated Santa’s workshop where hundreds of artisans offer a full day of pure shopping bliss with over 24,000 handmade original works, many of which can be personalized for Christmas gifts. There’s also live music, a Kidzone, Mama Claus, Eddie the Elf, Captain Jack Spareribs, strolling performers, specialty foods and contests.

Grand Park will be lit up magically for the holidays. Take a stroll after sunset to enjoy the twinkling lights of the season.

The Music Center Holiday Sing-Along
Bundle up your family and share in the warmth and joy of the holidays with a grand night of singing under the stars. Live accompaniment. Lyric sheets provided. No experience necessary, come prepared to sing! It’s free, but availability is limited so you will need to get there early and line up. Tickets are distributed starting at 6:00 PM, limited to one per person standing in line.

L.A. County Holiday Celebration
More than 20 music groups, choirs and dance companies from the many neighborhoods and cultures of the region celebrate the season during this free, three-hour holiday show.

Holiday Sing-Along at Disney Hall
Accompanied by Disney Hall’s huge pipe organ, a choir and a jazz combo, you’ll enjoy singing numerous popular songs of the season.

A Swingin’ Christmas: The Count Basie Orchestra

Riverdance: The 20th Anniversary World Tour
Riverdance, the innovative Irish music, song and dance phenomenon, returned to North America this fall after a critically acclaimed run in Asia and Europe. The performers draw on Irish traditions with their dancing and music that progresses into the present day.

A Faery Hunt Adventure

This interactive performance is filled with music, fun, laughs, fairies and strange creatures. The audience makes its way through the forest and becomes part of the story. Children are welcome to come in costume or purchase wizard and gnome hats, wings, wands, and garlands for $5 to $10.

Giant Robot Biennale, Fourth Edition

Giant Robot is a store and art gallery that champions up-and-coming artists including many who have gone on to acclaimed careers. Among the offerings are husband-wife duo Kozyndan who are creating a mural in the museum, James Jean’s sketchbooks, Edwin Ushiro’s re-creation of his own studio, Katsuya Terada’s live art and more.
