The house that you love may be perfectly priced with the exact square footage that you need and in an excellent location. However, if you’ve got kids, there’s one consideration that trumps all these positives: how good is the local school district?

Fortunately, that’s not something you have to worry about when you buy one of our Yorba Linda homes. The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District is considered one of the top districts in the Los Angeles metro area, if not the state.

Core Values

The district’s commitment to education starts with its four core values:

  • Excellence in pursuing the best in all academic and organizational endeavors.
  • Collaboration with all members of the school community to make students succeed.
  • Integrity in fostering relationships that enhance respect, service, and honesty to benefit all students.
  • Innovation to inspire intellectual exploration by celebrating ingenuity.

Focus Areas

To fulfill its values, the district focuses on five areas:

  • Academic achievement by expecting all students to demonstrate improved academic achievement so they graduate college and are career ready.
  • Effective instruction and leadership by actively engaging each student when implementing Common Core State Standards and the use of technology.
  • Engaged community that involves educational, business, and community partners to provide feedback and help with decision-making.
  • Safe and respectful environment that promotes health, well-being, and safety of the students, staff, and parents.
  • Optimized resources to ensure that all fiscal and capital resources maximize educational opportunities while balancing the budget.

Results

You can argue that all educational districts foster such lofty goals with some having very little to show for it. The way to measure effectiveness is with results.

Despite having just completed a $600 million modernization of its facilities, the district remains fiscally solvent with a total student enrollment of 25,455 for school year 2015 2016 spread out over:

  • 20 elementary schools,
  • five middle schools,
  • four high schools,
  • one special education school,
  • one continuation high school,
  • one K-8 school,
  • one K-12 home school,
  • and a 9-12 independent-study high school.

The California Distinguished Schools designation applied to 24 of these facilities. Five received National Blue Ribbons, five got California Gold Ribbons, one has been designated a California Model School three times.

The best and the brightest work for the district including a California Continuation High School Teacher of the Year, a California New Drama Teacher of the Year, and numerous Orange County Teachers of the Year.

Community bond measures have opened four new schools between 2004 and 2009, and created new science labs, computer pods, gyms and playgrounds, school offices, and libraries. Music, athletic and academic programs have expanded at the four high schools.
